Q: When do I apply to the Achieve Program? A: Apply within a year of your expected date of entrance. Because there are limited spaces available for students to participate in the Program, the earlier you begin the process of application, the better. Of course, all applications are reviewed in the order that the complete requested material has been received. If space is available, we consider all applications as they are received. Q: When do I apply to Southern Illinois University? A: You can not apply to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale until you have completed six semesters of high school. So, at the end of your junior year, you can begin the application process. SIUC requires a prospective applicant to take the ACT or SAT test. Q: What are the entrance requirements for the Achieve Program? A: We require applicants to have a previous diagnosis of a learning disability, to possess the intellectual ability to progress through a college curriculum, and to be socially and emotionally ready for the college experience. We assess these criteria though a very comprehensive application and evaluation. Q: What if I don't meet the entrance criteria for SIUC? A: Students accepted into the Achieve Program, but not meeting the SIUC entrance criteria, are reviewed by an admissions committee who can agree to waive the university's entrance criteria for Achieve students. Q: What if I don't meet Achieve's entrance criteria? A: Not all applicants meet the entrance
criteria to our Program. For example, if a student needed direct
supervisory support, such as in an assisted living situation, or if
a student needs life-skills training, we do not have the
staff, facilities or training to fulfill those needs. Q: Do you accept transfer students into
Achieve? A: Yes. Q: Do you accept graduate students or
non-traditional students into Achieve? A: Yes. Q: Is there a time limit or degree limit
for a student's participation in Achieve? A: No. Once a student is part of
Achieve, the student is a member for LIFE. A student can use
services in the capacity that serves his or her needs for as long as he
or she chooses.
Students can leave and come back. Several times, we have
had
students use our services, complete degrees either at SIUC or other
institutions,
and then return years later to complete a Masters Degree or other
degree
using our program again. |
